Piur is a multidisciplinary design practice based on the study of materials through an experimental approach.
It was founded by Sofia Zanatta in 2020 and it is located in Northern Italy. A “learning by doing” approach, with a particular consideration in clay design research, allowed to produce sculptures by a systematic process able to generate a unique system for all the collections.
This project hasn’t hidden meanings, its purpose is to give importance to the material, to discover its peculiarities and to qualify its potential.
The firing technique that was used for this collection is called Obvara, it consists in extracting the piece during its second firing, on its higher temperature, and to pour a mix of water and organic elements on it; this produces a surface finishing with dark effects. The pieces were concluded in the Atelier of Nico Toniolo, a ceramist based in Nove, Italy.
